Peonies are a stunning addition to any floral arrangement, renowned for their vibrant blooms and delightful fragrance. To ensure your cut peonies last as long as possible, follow these care tips.

1. Fresh Cut

When you first receive your peonies, trim the stems about 1-2 inches at a diagonal angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption. Use sharp, clean scissors or gardening shears to avoid damaging the stem.

2. Watering

Place the peonies in fresh, lukewarm water immediately after cutting. Avoid using cold water, as this can shock the flowers. Ensure that the vase is clean to prevent bacterial growth, which can shorten the life of your blooms.

3. Condition the Flowers

Before placing the peonies in the vase, remove any leaves that would be submerged in water. Leaves in the water can cause decay and affect the water quality. You may also consider using a floral preservative to help prolong their longevity.

4. Location

Position your vase in a cool area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafts. This will help maintain the blossoms’ freshness and prevent wilting.

5. Regular Maintenance

Change the water every couple of days, and each time, trim the stems slightly to allow for optimal water absorption. Be sure to remove any dead petals or foliage from the arrangement to keep the water clean.

6. Temperature

Peonies prefer cooler environments, so if possible, keep them in a room with an ambient temperature of around 18-21°C (65-70°F). If your home is warm, consider placing ice cubes or cold water in the vase occasionally to keep the water temperature down.

7. Enjoy the Blooming Process

Peonies can take time to fully open, so be patient. Once they do, their beauty will be well worth the wait. If you notice some buds are taking longer to open, you can help by gently tapping them, but avoid forcing them open.

By following these care instructions, your cut peonies can remain vibrant and beautiful for several days, allowing you to enjoy their elegance in your home for longer.
